Peter Gilman
Peter Gilman (1928-1984) was born in Surrey and later lived in Bedfordshire. He was a professional marine and landscape artist painting in the traditional style in oils, acrylics, and watercolours. For thirty years or more before his tragic death he had been painting in East Anglia, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and along the Thames.
His long association with the Picturecraft Gallery in Holt, Norfolk, where he held his first one-man exhibition, led to the publication of a book on his life and work, bringing together a wide selection of his paintings for the first time.
A member of the Wapping Group of Artists, Gilman exhibited regularly at the Royal Society of Marine Artists Annual Exhibitions, the Chelsea Art Society Exhibitions and widely elsewhere in this country and abroad.
Winner of the John Goss prize at the1984 Hertford Art Society annual exhibition, His work has found a treasured place in many private collections, including that of the Royal Family.
