Michael Chapman

Michael Chapman was born in London 1933 and read medicine before entering Art College, He was a teacher and lecturer in art mainly in London and Essex and also later in Norwich.

He worked as art critic for the Arts Review magazine for several years.

A well known Norfolk landscape painter of the last sixty years, and now in his nineties, He ran The Michael Chapman Gallery in Cley-next-the-sea for many years doing picture conservation and restoration as well as selling his own works.

He has lived between Norfolk and London for many years and has had many one-man shows in London East Anglia and Scotland.

Michael enjoys a considerable reputation not only for his classic and sought-after coastal views but also for his less familiar – and very bold – contemporary abstracts.

Much of Michael’s work is in private collections in this country and around the world.
