Alfred W Saunders
Alfred W. Saunders (1908–1986), British artist.
He is well known for atmospheric depictions of the East Anglian countryside and coastlines.
Born March 23, 1908, in Hackney, London moved to Woodford Essex at age of 9, He joined the army at 21 as a regular soldier serving with the Essex Regiment.
After leaving the Army he married in 1941 and moved to Wingfield Green, Suffolk and became a popular painter of landscapes, including barns, windmills, and sunsets.
The Devon gallery in Elm Hill Norwich began selling his work in 1966.
He briefly moved to Australia in 1975 but returned to England, missing the changing seasons, and continued to paint the East Anglian landscape until his death on January 7, 1986.
